One way to pray daily is the Examen, a daily habit practiced and encouraged by Saint Ignatius of Loyola. In this prayer, you look back over your day to recognize how God is actively involved in your life.
The Daily Examen has five simple steps:
Saint John Chrysostom, onetime Archbishop of Constantinople, instructs us on paths to repentance.
All these paths lead to heaven:
(1) Acknowledge your sins and renounce them. One who condemns his own sins is slower to repeat them.
(2) Forgive. Forgive yourself for whatever you regret. Forgive your parents, friends, neighbors and even your enemies. Master your anger. Curb your wrath.
(3) Pray. Get in the habit of conversing with God, all day. Do it fervently, carefully and in heartfelt ways. Pray for people you encounter. Pray in difficult situations. Praise Him for the beauty you see.
(4) Be generous. Give alms freely and joyfully. Give of your own time and talent, too.
(5) Be humble. Reflect on Mother Teresa’s Humility List below.
